چکیده

We present radial and rotation (vsini) velocity measurements, from UVES+VLT high resolution spectra of 61 stars in the blue horizontal branches (HB) of the Galactic globular clusters NGC 1904 (M79), NGC 2808, NGC 6093 (M80), and NGC 7078 (M15). The data reduction and the velocity determination, based on cross-correlation techniques, are discussed in detail. Most of this database has been used by RecioBlanco et al. (2002) in their analysis of the rotation velocity properties of blue HB stars. Here we present additional data for NGC 2808. We confirm the results of the previous paper, in particular, a possible link between the HB jump and the abrupt change in the rotational velocity distribution around Teff ∼ 11,500 K.

Rotation of Hot Horizontal Branch Stars in Galactic Globular Clusters

We present high resolution UVES+VLT spectroscopic observations of 61 stars in the extended blue horizontal branches of the Galactic globular clusters NGC 1904 (M79), NGC 2808, NGC 6093 (M80), and NGC 7078 M15). Our data reveal for the first time the presence in NGC 1904 of a sizable population of fast (vsini ≥ 20 km/s) horizontal branch (HB) rotators, confined to the cool end of the EHB, simila...

High-resolution spectroscopic measurements of blue horizontal-branch stars in six metal-poor globular clusters —M3, M13, M15, M68, M92, and NGC 288 — reveal remarkable variations in photospheric composition and rotation velocity as a function of a star’s position along the horizontal branch. For the cooler stars (Teff < 11200 K), the derived abundances are in good agreement with the canonical c...

Blue horizontal branch stars in metal - rich globular clusters . II . 47 Tuc and NGC 362

Atmospheric parameters (Teff , log g), and radial velocities are derived for twelve candidate blue horizontal branch (HB) stars in the globular clusters 47 Tuc and NGC 362, which so far have been known to contain primarily red HB stars. The spectroscopic targets were selected from the catalog of hot stars detected in these clusters at 1600 Å using the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UIT). Spectr...

Na - O Anticorrelation And HB I . The Na - O anticorrelation in NGC 2808 ⋆

We derived atmospheric parameters and elemental abundances of Fe, O and Na for about 120 red giant stars in the Galactic globular cluster NGC 2808. Our results are based on the analysis of medium-high resolution (R=22000-24000) GIRAFFE spectra acquired with the FLAMES spectrograph at VLT-UT2 as a part of a project aimed at studying the Na-O anticorrelation as a function of physical parameters i...

Enhancement and spread of helium among globular cluster stars have been recently suggested as a way to explain the horizontal branch blue tails, in those clusters which show a primordial spread in the abundances of CNO and other elements involved in advanced CNO burning. Helium enhancement is unavoidable, if the matter responsible for the abundance spreads is identified with the matter lost by ...
